I am not real crazy about a fanzine, I am however behind the idea of making a new Purple book like Judges Guild did or a one time pdf. i think a fanzine is a step too far at this time. I will of course contribute if you go ahead on this. I also give you permission to put any of my old stuff here , there.

Oh and I picked No to the fanzine, no to pay what you want, and I would pick yes, I will contribute and the Ruins should be able to reprint forever.

In the first post it was specified "once the forum is humming, so it was not for right now. I actually think a purple book like Judges Guild did would be more difficult. Where that would be a 50-60 or more page book with 8.5x11 pages. A fanzine could be 8 half pages i.e. two sheets of paper folded for 8 total half pages, which if you only did a pdf would be a digest size layout.

mao what frequency of publication did you think a fanzine would be? Ok, if you are talking about infrequent publication then I'm in I don't know what anyone else is thinking, but I was thinking twice a year with only one this year and if it works, then twice a year starting next year. Now if a bunch of people stepped up to do the parts that I am not good at, then yeah we could do more often, but until that happens, no.

Anything in particular you want me to submit(lol) I have a big repertoire)?

Anything in particular you want me to submit(lolI have a big repertoire)? Anything that you think would have a broad old school appeal. Start with the most OD&D thing you have and then you can branch out from there. If we do this, we need to set a goal to have all submissions in by and other goals after that leading up to publication. What we really need is someone who can do layout and format a pdf correctly.

I am not a Luddite and do not think you are either. However, I can distinguish between useful technology and harmful technology. I also can distinguish between technology that is easy for young people to use and very difficult for older people due to primarily physical things. Hearing and eyesight decline with age, fingers stiffen with arthritis and those things are not recognized as legitimate these days. But everyone ages and those laughing now, will not be laughing later. Plus those who are destroying their hearing now with earbuds are going to be in the same place that those in the previous days made the cars around them vibrate with cranked up stereos. I at least took care of my hearing as much as possible. Once I got away from the farm and the tractors running straight exhaust pipes instead of mufflers, that is.

Being the Editor is my conceit, but IRL I could check spelling, but not too much beyond that. Nevertheless, I am willing to help with this project.

Hi I think this is a good idea and have some experience making zines. I can contribute one or two pieces of art probably! But I am mad busy right now so can't commit too much. I have experience with drivethrurpgs POD premedia process before and can advise on making PDF ready for that (its quite arcane compared to most modern printing.) The only thing is that drivethrurpg just cut the staple bound format last week! So you can't really make zines with them anymore, everything needs to be perfect bound. Lulu is the other option which I have no experience with. Or if people are happy for it to be perfect bound than drivethru could still be used. I do layout too (scribus or affinity publisher) but won't be able to take on doing that for this project - but if someone is learning layout or has any issues I can help troubleshoot them Some public domain art links -

Sorry to hear that the staple bound format was dropped, that is a bummer. Right now we are just kicking around ideas and finding out who would like to help. So by the time I would need any art, you will hopefully be less busy. But I appreciate the offer of a piece or two. It would be great to have some new art to go with the public domain stuff.

I am in favor of a fanzine and I think you should charge for it and not do it for free.

Do you guys think there should be a theme? like for example a setting that everyone makes pieces of (like for example a misty forest - one person might make monsters, another would make NPCs you meet there, another person might make rules for getting lost , another might make a lil town, another person might make some plants you find etc)
Or should it be more like a mixtape with no theme were people make articles and content about totally different things (whatever they happen to find interesting)

I could see having a workshop area for it here and sometimes a theme would grow out of the workshop for a specific issue.

Dreamer, I hope you do a fanzine, a real OD&D fanzine. I think it is needed and necessary.

Perilous what I would reccomend is that you get two issues 99% completed and then do a Kickstarter for just the first Issue. If the Kickstarter funds, then you can pay for some additional art to be added in. If it does not fund, then go ahead and release it as a PWYW. Also if it funds, you can quickly finish off and release Issue 1 and then go ahead and work on Issue 3 while you get ready to do a Kickstarter for Issue 2. If you are always working one issue ahead, then you will always release everything right on schedule.

I am really hoping that someone who has the editorial and software skills steps up to help with this. PD you should go ahead and create a sub-forum for this and make it an invite/request only membership to work on this. That way we can throw in ideas and make suggestions and each of us can do what we can to help.

Looks like a few people had some good advice, so that is a start. I would vote for a sub-forum and for a name to be chosen.

My stuff, if wanted, is all piecemeal (or "modular" to be polite) and could be in a section or scattered throughout
