I think this is going to be a good year too! Looking for some good things to happen here on the forum! Hear, hear, let's make 2022 the best year yet here at The Ruins! Well I am all for that, but I want to celebrate 2021 before I look forward to 2022 too much, this has been a very good year for the forum, in spite of all the obstacles. A bunch of us have been sick this year, and several have had, through no fault of their own, their participation cut to a fraction of what it would otherwise be. But I certainly agree with your statement!

OK, the stats for Year 7 are in and what does it mean may you ask.
First Glance: Our previous best year was Year 4, so how do we compare to that We had 62,904 fewer page views ~172 views per day We had 1,213 more new threads ~3.3 more threads per day We had 178 few posts or ~0.5 fewer posts per day But we also had 24 more new members this year and at 71, the second most ever, surpassed only by the 117 of our first year.
Here is something else We had considerably more posts, threads and new members than the last two years combined by a wide margin. Considering the health issues among our most active members, one of which has been out for over half the past year I am comfortable calling this our new best year.
A little later I will also post a Second Glance for this.

Now for the 2nd Glance
We now have 401 members and are 7 years old.
Original D&D Discussion has 1,312 members and is roughly 14.5 years old
Knights & Knaves Alehouse has 1,121 members and is about 16.4 years old
We had over 2342 posts more than odd74 and 1873 posts fewer than K&KA
However we had 2,266 new threads while they had 1208 new threads combined
We also had 71 new members to their 54 new members combined.
We have about 10-15 active posters in any given month, they have combined about 100-130 or so active posters in any given month(maybe more).
Dragonsfoot (current incarnation is about 19.5 years old) has more new posts than our three forums combined, they are massive with 11,752 members and they grew by 300 members this year, more than our three forums combined. And yet we had 2,266 new threads to their 2,105 new threads over the past twelve months. Isn't that interesting.
What does it mean? I don't know; however, here is what it says to me, we are where we need to be and if we could double our number of active posters we would be exactly where we would like to be.
I mention the other forums, because they are our measuring stick. The first two are where we might be in 7 or 8 years. Dragonsfoot is just for kicks, they had fewer new threads, but they have much longer and deeper discussions because they have literally 200-300 active posters, one of which accounts for about 3800 posts per year by himself. They also have quite a few other posters who are in the range of 800 or more posts per year. When you have 10 posters accounting for about 15,000 posts per year priming the pump for 200-300 other people you can understand how they can get to 84,149 posts this past year.
We are not trying to "beat" or "surpass" any of them, given the size and age differences that would be ridiculous. However, we can, by looking at these other forums, get an idea of are we healthy or not. I say the numbers show we are healthy, that we have rebounded from two really down years where we had some of our biggest posters and most active members sidelined due to health issues and real world losing of family members.
I think Year 8 will be a great year, but life is never certain. So lets go enjoy Year 8 as best we can and then at the end of the year we will take stock again and see what the year turned out to be.

We had over 2000 new threads in the past year?? Wow.
I see what you mean about major posters priming the pump. I wonder about that here, although I have been slow of late, but I worry about flooding the forum with my posts. However, I guess I should just post whatever I want.
I think the atmosphere here is very healthy, knock wood, at least it seems so to me.

(I am sure he thinks he posted to much) He made approximately 5,300 posts during the past year, but very little the last two months. He wanted to boost November and December and couldn't. He did a lot of heavy lifting this past year, he probably will not do anything remotely close to that this year. So I would guess that you could double the posts you have right now and not be in danger of posting too much. You have 2,603 posts right now and you could post that many every year and it would be fine. But we both know that the vast majority of people are going to burn out before they get close to 2,600 a year, so post away, you have nothing to worry about (except avoiding burnout) and neither does anyone else. And as noted above DF has a poster than has averaged 3,800 posts per year for almost 20 years now. A rare individual indeed and it is mostly creative material.

Not ready for a vow, but that would be very good for me to aim for in the next 365 days. Difficult but if I stayed on top of it, it could be done. Is there a way to keep track of this, I wonder?
