Trask: "There is that small metal chest on the bottom shelf of the l'l bookcase. Maybe we should check that out before we quit the cellar. It seems to be much of nuthin here we need to discover; maybe we should think about getting to that blighted hole yonder - since it is why we are here in the first place. We can always secure this lodge & use it as a place to rest after dark since the blessings of Mulvigg seem to grant us respite within its walls. What say you all?" Gwindeth concurs with Trask. Then says, "Once we check that out, then Togork and I will see to salvaging the what we can of the food in the other closet. We also need to see how we are fixed for supplies, any game around here may be tainted, but fish back at the river might be safe to eat."

Sora looks at Josiah, who in turn shrugs, then tentatively pokes the aforesaid "small metal chest" with his massive sword. If nothing dire happens immediately, Josiah exerts enough force to make the chest move. If nothing dire still fails to occur, he will reach down and pick up the chest, moving it out into the middle of the room where it can be more closely examined. OOC: Watches to see what happens.

Nothing occurs, the small chest sits in the center of the small shrine/study. You notice it has a lock on the front & symbol of Mulvigg on the top. It is 9"s high, a foot long & 9" wide.

Sora mutters, "Well, it seems unlikely to contain a basilisk."
Going down on one knee, he draws his silver dagger and uses it to cautiously probe the chest's visible joints, then to lift and turn the lock, examining it from every angle.
[OOC: Sora is only of moderate intelligence and is not a Thief, but he presumably has some experience with "aggressive acquisitioning" (e.g. looting). He is attempting to determine if it would be relatively safe for Josiah to simply hack off the lock and open the chest.]

Maybe another party member in the cellar has the skills or tools needed to open the chest. Mighty Darci The Perilous Dreamer Sora does notice that their seems to be something inside that shifts when moved but what you are not sure.

Sora stands up and steps back from the chest, then looks around at the other party members [assuming they have not cleared the room in anticipation of disaster . . .].
He says, "Well, I'm not one for picking locks and someone might want to try that, before Josiah uses his preferred method for dealing with such."
Wordlessly, Josiah hefts his still-unsheathed heavy sword, making it rather obvious what sort of "lockpicking" he practices.

Zoren steps up, "Let me give that a try, it would be a shame to damage such a superbly made item."
He examines it carefully and, if detecting no triggering devices, will attempt to open the lock.

It takes very little effort to pop the lock & open the chest. A black leather satchel with 6 vials of what seems to be Healing potions. A small sheathed dagger, a bag with berries & bag with 12 Sp & 9 Gp.

"Berries? Locked in a chest with gold and silver? Hmmm. Magic? Blessed?" Sora speculates aloud.

"Berries? Locked in a chest with gold and silver? Hmmm. Magic? Blessed?" Sora speculates aloud. Does anyone in the cellar have Wood Lore (Elf, Druid or Ranger )or Magical lore (Magic-User)? The Perilous Dreamer

"Berries? Locked in a chest with gold and silver? Hmmm. Magic? Blessed?" Sora speculates aloud. Zoren says, " Let me have a closer look at those berries." After giving them a careful looks he says, "The berries are Lithdraken Berries they bolster ones resistance to Poison, Venom & Disease and last for a while after taking one." Doing a quick count he further says, "There are enough for every member of the party plus four extra. They are addictive, so I would advice their use should be sparing."

Sora and Josiah accept their shares with appropriate gravity, then Sora comments, "I believe that whoever takes point should get the extra berries."

We make a thorough check for any other secret or hidden areas or passage and if we do not find any then, after salvaging all of the food (beans and flour) that we can and cleaning up, we re-lock things and head back up to let the others know what we found.

Gwindeth works diligently to help gather up the flour and the beans. Togork waits to see if anyone finds any other openings, if there are not he goes back up the stairs to check on the others and to pass the news onto Grimbane and Grimdeath.
