Jumping off this thread in my forum I wanted some ideas and feedback on how to implement a humans as only race with adding in classes to differentiate them. To distill what was said there: The way I understand the history of things the original plan or thought was to not include demi-humans as playable races. Also, something I read in another forum theorizes that added classes were a type of troop type idea with classes beyond the basic 4 being more specialized almost like a special forces type of situation. Even if I am off on some of this I feel it works as a theory. Thoughts?

I think going with humans only is a perfectly valid option. As far as diversifying the classes, I would just be careful not to do things that bog the game down, so be prepared to tweak things along the way. I would drop the level limits and just set it up that the more powerful the class is the more XP it takes to advance. Also so that you do not run into the superman issue you might cap all levels at 10th level as an example. Rework magic so that you do not have as many levels of spells. For magic users XP earned beyond the amount to reach 10th level ties into the chance to develop new spells. I would let magic users have a max number per level, but be able to add to this by learning from other magic users, from scrolls or from found spell books in treasures. The last two having hazards connected to them.

I strongly made my feeling known that most PCs should be human. All you have to do is give a big bonus to humans and diddly for the non humans. Works like a charm. I did this for all 31 years of Mysantia, not much complaining.

I have never had the misfortune of playing with those who play demi-humans in any of these ways. Although I could tolerate the Dwarven thing, those kind of Elves and halflings would have to go.
