That said, I could see running magic-users having a sentinel animal that they gain the ability to communicate with, say at 4th level. That mainly serves as a lookout when the magic-user is dead to the world focused on studying that magic tome, and things like that and drop all of the occultic stuff.

A lot of the links Ive been posting, I didnt go back and re read them so I have made some mistakes about posting them, I sometimes forget that we are basicly PG here. I will be more careful in the future as I dont like occult stuff either

1) A lump of grey stone with two darker spots that does not appear to move, but is found in odd places.
2) A bloodhound so good-natured it cannot tell friend from foe.
3) A kiwi bird, friendly but with petting aggression.
