[OOC: Are the two Aslan speaking their own language? Or Galanglic? If the latter, are they speaking loud enough for Peng to overhear?]

[OOC: Hmmmm . . . " . . . and only two turrets . . ." My memory may be faulty here. But I think that we're a 400dton vessel and while we started out with only two turrets, us players were able to successfully argue our GM into admitting that nobody would send an undergunned ship out to explore an unknown sector. Or - at least - not and expect it to return! EDIT: I checked the Library Data page and we do - intend - appear to have only two (2) turrets! But at least these are fully armed.]

Even so, the ship will be an eggshell armed with a sledgehammer.

[OOC: Are the two Aslan speaking their own language? Or Galanglic? If the latter, are they speaking loud enough for Peng to overhear?] They are speaking Galanglic, and, given Takheal's rumbling voice, Peng can just make out what he is saying.

OOC I got caught up in the fascinating dialogue and forgot to jump in, in the interest of moving things along, I think it would be best for Blackjack to handle things, as I also was not sure how to proceed.

[ooc: Emiya will negotiate with either Raven or Blackjack, though Raven is who she favors - but that is simply who she sees as Captain of the ship.]

[OOG: OOG: Adding turrets won't help much if the ship can't take a hit. Missile turrets would help, since they give some standoff capability. Even so, the ship will be an eggshell armed with a sledgehammer. You've just described a WWII destroyer or patrol boat. Ships like that couldn't take much in the way of damage, but carried enough firepower to discourage anything other than a larger warship from taking them on. That's pretty much the same strategy as an armed merchant. Mounting the maximum amount of firepower allowed is saying to pirates/privateers: "Yeah. You might can take me down. But your first salvo better take me out or I'm gonna make your 'win' pretty darn Pyrrhic." NOTE: IMTU, I allow civilian ships to mount a CIWS - Close-In Weapon System - composed of one or more Gauss Heavy Machine Guns in remote-control pop turrets. Since these are really only useful against incoming missiles in space combat (and annoying low-tech natives in ground combat) the Imperium doesn't care how many they choose to mount. Pirates/privateers usually respond by mounting all energy weapons in their turrets, since missiles are thus not only relatively hard to come by (at least in any significant quantity/quality) but also not of very high utility any longer.]

With a standoff range of a hundred or more kilometers, the slug throwers will be way too slow to interdict the missiles before they detonate.

With a standoff range of a hundred or more kilometers, the slug throwers will be way too slow to interdict the missiles before they detonate. Yeah. But - as I noted - in the normal run of things, it's difficult enough for privateers and especially out-and-out pirates to supply themselves with a sufficient quantity of high-quality *normal* missiles. If such opponents have access to nuclear-bomb-pumped missiles, we aren't talking criminality, we're talking open war. ]

OOC: I'd say were were speaking Galangic unless we post otherwise. That's safest.
IC:
She listened to Takheal and then nodded. "At least enough to hold off or discourage the less serious pirates. We are not seeking war."

Peng takes note of the two Aslan apparently discussing the defensive capacity of the Sails, although he can only clearly make out the male's words. Peng briefly considers raising his voice in defence of his ship, but then . . .

Tokheletoi flicked her ears to join Takheal in agreement. "War is bad for profits and this ship and crew do not look suited as pirates. Not that our honor would allow such." She turned back to Blackjack. "Do you offer shares in your ship?"

OOC: Roll me a sale for one share, boss. Let's see if poor Charlie can get anything shaved off that 50K initial offer. Charlie stood and extended a hand. "Charlie Lin. I'm a navigator looking for a berth." Charlie OOC: Rolled 12, 70% of the 50k, Thazar shakes Charile's hand and says, "You drive a hard bargain Mister! Getting a share for 35 thousand is a steal."

It has two triple turrets installed and two hard points where turrets could be added at a later time. You are armed with four lasers and two sand casters.

She turned back to Blackjack. "Do you offer shares in your ship?" "I don't, not at the moment." Blackjack says looking surprised. Thazar says, "Yeah, but I am. I'm quiting the ship, Captain Miller and selling my shares. I'm asking 50 k per share. I've agreed to sell one to this fellow here." he points to Charlie. "I'll negotiate in private with the two cat guys if they want to buy in." Thazar adds, "Then if you want to buy the rest, I'll let you make me an offer." Blackjack frowns at his, now former, navigator, "Okay, de Verr, if that's what you want." OOC: If Takheal and/or Tokheletoi want to go privately to negotiate you can do so then return. I rolled and the best deal you can make with Thazar is 35,000 per share. He won't go lower. Do you want to buy in? BTW, if you buy in you are aboard the ship whether anyone actually hires you or not.

Peng fiddles with his cards - keeping them close to his chest all the while - and waits placidly for the new chain of command to sort itself out.

Tokheletoi regarded Thazar for a moment and then flicked her ears forward. "We will negotiate with her," she motioned to Thazar. "May we use step out into the passageway or to your stateroom to conduct the discussions?" At a nod from Thazar Tokheletoi headed out into the passage leaving Takheal behind for a business deal of this sort was of no interest to a male. Indeed it would be insulting to his honor to even involved him except at the very end.
She was gone for perhaps ten minutes before she returned. Tokheletoi motioned Takheal over and spoke quietly to him in Trokh. "I have bargained for 35KCr in Imperial credits. It is a good deal and well under our budget. I believe the ship meets with your needs and desires. I recommend that you accept Thazar's offer." She had deferred the final albeit ceremonial conclusion of the deal to Takheal in accordance with custom.

He lowers his ears in an expression of pleased acceptance, and punctuates it with an acceptable, if not formal, smile.

Tokheletoi inclined her head to Takheal in acknowledgement and then turned to Thazar; "We accept your offer." After an awkward handshake the trio returned to the lounge.
"We have agreed to buy one share of her ownership of this ship," Tokheletoi announced. "Thazar has agreed. Now, how do you arrange management of the ship captain," she addressed Blackjack.
