Hello, Sorry for the long absence. Finally I managed to try the first edition, I organized an adventure with a classic flavor, a dungeon crawling inside an ancient pre-columbian like ziggurat. The characters left for a distant, little-explored peninsula, covered by jungle and inhabited by savages (Tula). They landed in the small colony of Lost Heaven to find a missing treasure hunter. Just arrived after a month of navigation they realize that the town has been attacked! The savages gathered in a council after a sacrilage, the attempting plunder the Pyramid of Uxmal, the tomb of the first emperor of the people of Tula. There are three tribes. The black, skilled in the trade. The blue, composed of strong warriors. The green, composed of evil cannibals.
The first two participated to a lesser extent in the attack, because living on the coast, and they are in close contact with the whites and are more loyal and civilized. Meanwhile, under the pretext of protecting the city, a noble but evil knight seeking a fiefdom has occupied the city with his army of beastmen. These mercenaries eat and drink for free, terrorize the inhabitants and impoverish the colony. The playing characters recruited two local guides, explored the city a little and then left for the jungle. They fought a hungry pterodactyl and the cannibal guardians at the base of the pyramid. They found a secret door and found a crystal skull (which was useful to explore the lower level of the pyramid, where it was able to absorb the radiation that stagnates), then opened a false door collapsing the ceiling, and finally they entered the pyramid. Here they faced monsters, traps and enigmas. The adventure I used, I wrote it, and it was published in Italy as a supplement for the old school role-playing game "Antiche Leggende" ( www.terradeigiochi.it/giochi-di-ruolo/2662-antiche-leggende-missione-per-un-amico.html ).
During the game I often showed photos from this book by Victor Wolfgang von Hagen, "The Ancient Sun Kingdoms of the Americas: Aztec, Maya, Inca" (published in 1961, an old school book for an old school game!), This good book served me for inspiration and was fundamental for the success of the adventure.
It was a good experience, the game is smooth and simple, I never had to consult the manuals, also because I have photocopied the flying sheets with all the information and I attached them to an handcraft dm-screen. I really appreciated the absence of the thief, the players were really forced to think about the structural elements. I had seven players, two of whom were playing a role-playing game for the first time! But they immediately understood the rules and everything turned out to be very simple and spontaneous. A very nice thing is that we played in a medieval tower house built in 1100, in the historic district of Vicopisano, in Tuscany. Who hosted us to play lives inside the tower! I know that for you Americans, maybe it's a weird thing, but it happens in Italy.
Thanks for your support, the forum is always a source of inspiration.
Bye.
