I'd like to see (or write myself) the old 1950's post-apocalypse book "The Death of Grass" be made into an Aftermath! rpg supplement.

I love post-apocalyptic fiction, I will have to look for this one. Just a friendly warning, Sir... Even though it was written in the 50's, I think it may have been shocking at that time. There is an instance of rape, that while brutal, isn't written porn. But it may be objectionable I still think it's a great book, though... To me, it really delves into the psyche of everyday people faced with experiencing a very threatening apocalyptic scenario. Highly recommended, but again with some fair warning.

Real life is frequently objectionable, so I won't rule it out on that count.

I wouldn't mind seeing a mini-supplement based on the Assassin's Apprentice books, which did have a magic system that was kind of interesting, based (as I recall) more on connection and understanding than "power," exactly.
Now, that might sound like a storytelling game thing, which is not my focus. But I would be interested to see a writeup in a couple pages, maybe as the magic system employed by NPCs in a neighboring kingdom, something like that.
For those who havent' read the books: two kinds of innate but trainable magic, Skill (telepathy, scrying, some possibility for thought control) and Wit (emotional bonds, sense-sharing, etc with nonhuman animals). I don't see these as usefully gameable for me, but I wouldn't mind having them as a "nearby" thing for NPC, and not even for many of them.

I have read one book a long time ago by Robin Hobb and had not idea she was Margaret Astrid Lindholm Ogden. Have not seen these books, but you have tweaked my interest. Great old thread, thanks for bringing it too the front, it was from before I arrived. Edit: interesting that under one pen name she wins awards and the other she sells books

Great old thread, thanks for bringing it too the front, it was from before I arrived. Edit: interesting that under one pen name she wins awards and the other she sells books I knew she was both authors, but did not know that one name won awards and one sold well. I read an interview with her some years ago and thought she sounded like a cool lady, thoughtful and pretty humble. The Assassin's Apprentice books are, I think, intended for a "young adult" audience and I read them when I was about 26. There may be faults that I wasn't aware of at the time, but to my taste and understanding, that first Assassin's Apprentice book was one of the best things I have read in the fantasy genre. There were moments that gripped you emotionally in a familiar or predictable way, sure, but there were many more moments that were emotionally engaging in a way I hadn't really seen before. Seeing (sort of) through a child's eyes, later having the older version of the child recall and comment on what he understood then. I think I was largely unconscious of my emotional responses to art and literature until relatively recently. I felt them but had no words for them. Now I think back and have a better idea of what I was responding to.
