Flameings are only encountered as a summoned battle creature. Scholars are unsure of why this is, with them not encountered on the elemental plane of fire. Having only one HD( 12" tall), it is quite small for a 2nd Level summoning. The key is that they stick around until killed, with no maximum duraion. It is not uncommon for mages to summon a number equal to their Int , to guard the mage's home. Leaving them to their own will can be a costly mistake as they are very destructive, stting fires at any chance they get.
Summon Flameling wiz 2 casting time 10 min. Material component: fire pit and 25 Gp in costly incense. as noted above , you can summon Number equal to your Int(each spell will only summon one AC=Plate, dam D8, Imune to fire takes double damage from water or cold, air or fire spells add another HD for 5 min.

When the mage sets them to the task of guarding their home, is that considered leaving them on their own?

Flamelings are only encountered as a summoned battle creature. Scholars are unsure of why this is, as they are never encountered on the elemental plane of fire. Having only one HD (standing 12" tall), it is quite small for a 2nd Level summoning. The key is that they stick around until killed, with no maximum duration. It is not uncommon for mage's to summon a number equal to their INT , to guard the mage's home. Leaving them without a master and an assigned task can be a costly mistake as they are very destructive, setting fires at any chance they get. Summon Flameling Wizard level 2 casting time 10 min. Material component: fire pit and 25 Gp in costly incense. as noted above , you can summon a total number equal to your INT one at a time as each use of the spell will only summon one.AC=2, damage 1d8 Immune to fire, but they take double damage from water or cold spells, but air or fire spells add another HD for half a turn.Quote it and preserve it.

So these things do not exist until they are summoned, is that right?
