I don't know about you guys, but I love miniatures. One of the fascinating parts of the hobby is the period before anyone was making the fantasy minis, folks would make them themselves! I got a drawer full of plastic toys and soldiers which I sometimes pull stuff out of, that is old-school as heck! I don't get too hung up on what they look like, they just represent ideas, but some of the old-timers, they were specific and that is how we got some cool monsters. I'm sure that everybody has heard of the mythos behind the "rust monster!" I found a link to a cool page that I thought that I'd share on kitbashing. He's got some great ideas! Why buy them, when you can be old-school and make them yourself? STORMCASTLE MiniaturesAnyone else here interested in this, or have some links to sites about how to do this?

I like miniatures but I lacked the patience to learn to paint them or convert them but now that I am older I want to not only learn to do both but also learn to sculpt as well. Another good option is paper miniatures, that you can get in various styles or if you are artistic you can create your own, by printing them out on card stock. Until I get skilled at sculpting or both converting and painting plastic or metal miniatures I'll likely use paper miniatures in their place.

One of our favourite old-school artists, Erol Otus, also dabbled in miniatures and displayed some on his webpage, which is gone but lives on in the Internet Wayback Machine. Erol Otus Art Page The Miniatures PageNow there is some interesting stuff here. He talks a little bit about kitbashing and also describes some kind of Old School mini wargame/skirmish game that he and his mates used to enjoy playing. Check it out!
