Oh, oh. I think I'm in trouble . . .
Trying his best to don an innocent expression, Peng shuffles over to Raven and with a downcast looks mumbles: "Yes, ma'am?"

Oh, oh. I think I'm in trouble . . .Trying his best to don an innocent expression, Peng shuffles over to Raven and with a downcast looks mumbles: "Yes, ma'am?" OOC: Peng should have noticed by now that Raven is referring to him as Mr. Silva instead of Ha'penney."Mr. Silva, now that I know you enlisted instead of being drafted, there is going to be a new standard and higher expectations for you. I expect that you will live up to those expectations if you put even half your mind to it," says Raven. She smiles warmly at him and continues, "I have an assignment that should be right up your alley, I would like you to keep an eye on Gilroy, something seems to be a bit off and I need to know that it will not put this trip in danger. Let me know what you find out and report only to me. Can you handle that?"

We both also know that you need to be watched just as closely (if not closer) than Gilroy. But you know the old saying, 'Set a thief to catch a thief' and that certainly applies here." So we have two ways to go here, you shape up with your area (and be less and less subject to inspections[ But do not make me regret that] and keep an eye on Gilroy and let me know what he is up to, or now that I think about it, why don't you just tell me what he is up to as I am sure that you have a good idea if not direct knowledge Hmm! Or I suppose if you really wanted to get on my bad side I could scrutinize everything you do much, much closer." Peng nods along as Raven speaks, trying his best to look attentive and compliant . . .
It sounds like she's ordering me to try and join in with Gilroy on any private small package deals he gets into. Or maybe she wants me to get him involved in anything I come up with? Both? I'm confused but what the Hell, it's worth a shot. Worst case, I'll probably have to pay any fines we incur. Best case, I make some serious coin.
When Raven dismisses him to go off and "think about it," Peng replies with: "Well . . . asking me to 'think about it' is getting the gravsled ahead of the air/raft. First thing is to see if Gil is even interested in a partnership. So I'll buy him a couple of beers and try talking around the issue, all subtle-like. If he bounces me, that'll have to be the end of it. There's no way to force these things, you know."

OOC: Raven is very concerned that Gilroy might be endangering all of them. Peng stops just short of that, sigh, at least so far. OOC: Yeah. Easiest way for that to happen would be for Gilroy to accept a "black box" deal - e.g. agree to transport something without knowing what it is. Such deals are often very lucrative, but also very often highly illegal; the blackest of black market cargoes, rather than the grey market stuff that Peng prefers. I just started reading the Black Ocean series by J. S. Morin; just such a deal forms the central plot of Book 2.

"Mr. Silva, what in the world makes you think I want you to go into a partnership with Gilroy? I just want you to find out what he is up to, that he is up to something you have just confirmed. Just try to give us a heads up before he derails the whole trip. And try to keep yourself (and the rest of us) out of a sticky mess with the authorities." Raven looks as though she is considering something, "Hmm a partnership may actually be the way to go after all. I'm sure that you of all people could pull off a sting if it is anything serious. I don't care about minor things that the authorities ignore, but I don't want to be blind-sided by the things they can't ignore. So if he is doing something seriously risky, then we need to boot him off the ship" Raven suddenly smiles a wide grin and her voice sounds dangerous, " Mr. Silva, I am sure you can figure it out and that you will do the right thing, you wouldn't dare do otherwise." Raven's short laugh has a cold deadly sound to it.

She really doesn't know how these things work! I thought it was just an act, but I guess it isn't, after all. I wonder if she thinks there's some sort of Smuggler's Guild or something, like in bad fantasy novels? Ah well, not that it matters . . .
Peng ducks his puzzled head, mutters, "Yes'sum. Do my best." and scurries out of range before Raven can confuse him even further.

OOC: Sorry! I didn't realize this game was still alive!
Peng tells Raven with a shrug: "Sorry, boss. But Blackjack is feeling lucky and won't leave the roulette table."
When Raven responds by - surprisingly - proceeding to join Blackjack in the game, an increasingly bemused Peng follows along. Not a betting man himself (as he knows perfectly well that the odds are always stacked in favor of the house), Peng hangs back a rank or so from the table itself, splitting his time between checking out all the female flesh on display and watching for possible threats. Picking up on Raven's subtle interest in a particular well-dressed gentleman, Peng attempts to move casually in that direction, while sliding his hand toward the coverall slit-pocket which allows access to his Blade . . .

The entire party is just outside Leroy's.Thazar, Peng, Raven, Baltus, Oscar and Blackjack check each other's filter masks and their own weapons. OOC: I want: - what weapons each of you has ready, if any,
- what armor you have on.
- your order of march and to do that you probably need to
- name a "Caller"
The 'shirt' might not be about to "hit the fan", but that thought is foremost in your minds. Certainly, Blackjack expects trouble before you get back to the Main Dome.
The path from Leroy's back to the Main Dome is north from where you are and mostly uphill. It winds back and forth around several ridges to the east and west of you. The ridges are high enough so you can't see what is behind them. There is a crossing road about half way back to the Dome that runs east/west and from there back to the Dome the ground is pretty flat. You stop for a minute to get organized...

Still in a somewhat unorganized state the party starts out from Leroy's. They start out with
Raven in the lead with her shotgun cradled in her arms.
Thazar is a couple of steps behind and to Raven's left, his pistol still in his shoulder holster, but his jacket is open where he can grab it instantly.
Baltus is behind Raven to her right with Thazar almost direct across from him. Baltus has an auto pistol in his hand and is looking around nervously.
Blackjack is behind Raven, several steps back with Thazar just ahead of him on his left and Baltus just ahead of him on his right.
Peng is behind Thazar by several steps, Blackjack is ahead to his right.
Cyril is a few steps behind Blackjack on his right side with Peng a few steps ahead on the other side of the Blackjack. Cyril's shotgun has a Flair round loaded and ready to go. It should illuminate the surrounding 100 meters for a couple of minutes as it ascends and then slowly floats back down with its tiny grav module.
Raven Thazar Baltus
Blackjack
Peng Cyril
The party moves out to the north toward the Main Dome. The path is only dimly lighted by a small moon shining down from the west casting deeper shadows where the ridges block its light. The Main Dome has some lights as does Leroy's, but neither provide much illumination for you.
The path is empty of foot or vehicle traffic. You cover the first several hundred meters happens with no problems. Then when you are about a third of the way back to the Dome you are moving through a valley with ridges to your left and right. The path is about 10 meters from the left ridge and 3 or 4 times that from the right ridge. Both ridges rise up high enough where you can't see over them and you are in almost complete darkness.
Suddenly, Raven, Thazar, Peng and Cyril see a dark form lift up from behind a ridge to the right of the party. The four of you immediately recognize it as an air-raft and there a rattle of loud gunfire which everyone hears.
Thazar shouts, "Ambush!" and pulling his Auto-Pistol from his holster fires toward the hovering air-raft
Blackjack (4/0/0) staggers then crumples to the ground. Cyril (5/6/6) feels a sharp pain in his right shoulder and involuntarily drops to a knee, but he's still 'in the game.' The rest of the volley of shots miss their targets as you hear bullets whiz past you making ripping sounds, then a multitude of 'Pock, Pock, Pocks' as they bury themselves into the ground of the ridge to your left.
----------------------------------------------------
Emiya sees the prone figure wave his arm and the air-raft rises up from behind the ridge. She hears a rattle of sound as the men aboard the air-raft fire on the party coming up the path. Emiya, with her goggles picks out 3 men standing and firing what look like SMG's while 1 driving the air-raft.
-----------------------------------------------------
Aboard The Clear Sails, Gilroy stopped at the Ship's Locker to grab a couple of weapons. He is running toward the ATV carrying a Rifle in one hand and he has his Auto Pistol in a shoulder holster when he passes Dr. Wade Vargas in the corridor.
The doctor calls out to him, "What's going on?" -----------------------------------------------------
End of Round One
Everyone give me your actions for round 2! I'll take all your immediate actions and put them together to form a narrative for what happens in Round Two of Combat.
Characters In Action: Raven (7/7/7) Blackjack (4/0/0) Thazar (6/A/A) Baltus (A/B/A) Peng (9/8/7) Cyril (5/6/6)

Emiya: Depending on where she is located & how close to the action will inform her own actions. Thus the options listed below.
Option 1a) If she was sneaking up onto the ridge as mentioned in the PM sent to Erisred - did the Air-Raft simply lift up & the mercs begin gunning from above the ridge or did it move into the valley towards the crew? If she is sneaking up onto the ridge she'll attempt to get the drop on the prone merc only if the Air-Raft moved into the valley and is out of range of her shotgun. If not she will attack him & if she puts him out of commission with her shotgun, she'll then quickly assess the situation including see what weapon the merc had in case it could be of greater use than her shotgun.
Option 1b) If instead the Air-Raft is still above the ridge & she can close with the it unseen she will shoot the mercs from behind if she can surprise them with her shotgun.
Option 2) If she is below the ridge and making her way towards the crew and if the air-raft is within range and above her she'll pull her shotgun with her slug ammo (as mentioned in PM) and try to shoot the grav repulsors in hopes that damaging them will make keeping control erratic if not force the mercs to land it so they don't crash. (Her shotgun is on a shoulder sling hanging at her side under her black overcoat).
Then in this situation (in valley not on the ridge) her follow up action for the next round will focus on the mercs in the A/R if they are still a viable threat, she will focus on them in this situation until they are deemed to no longer be a threat, but if they are not a serious threat after the initial round she will then turn to hunt the merc on the ridge but only if that threat threshold is met.
Option 3) If she is still a sizable distance from the combat she will close with the Mercs in the Air-Raft attacking the crew as quickly as possible using the ridge line as cover if possible as she closes the distance. Follow up actions will depend on how the round plays out.
Yes that is a lot of info but not knowing Emiya's position when the ambush happens it is needed to give Eris something to work with outside what I mentioned in PM last night.

Emiya was on the ridge. The air-raft came straight up and forward, but only over the ridge, not all the way over to the party on the path. As best she can tell she is unseen, so it looks like 1B with the mod that she'll be firing at them in enfilade rather than from behind. The passengers are in partial concealment with the air-raft above and ahead of Emiya's position, so her shotgun might have a better target at the grav modules on its starboard side. If she hits that it should make the air-raft list to the right...if nothing else. OTOH, if she wishes, she can call that she's trying to hit the passengers rather than the raft itself. I'm guessing I'll know what Emiya is aiming at by what she cycles into her shotgun's chamber: Slug for the raft, buckshot for the Thugs?

[OOC: what weapons each of you has ready, if any, If Peng sees the others (particularly Blackjack or Raven) actually pulling weapons, then he will unholster his Heavy Revolver and hold it ready. Peng's coverall functions as Cloth armor. Peng will try to stay in the middle of the group, so as to lessen his exposure to stray bullets (both those of any Opposition and those of the party). NOT Peng! ]

Action Option A: Assuming no friendlies are in his line of fire [height of the air/raft relative to the party not having been specified], Peng will take a two-handed stance and squeeze off an aimed shot at the airraft. He will lead his target appropriately for it's current speed. If the airraft is close enough and illuminated well-enough, he will try for a lift module. Otherwise, Peng will simply aim for center mass.
Action Option B: If a clear shot at the airraft is blocked from Peng's initial perspective, he will move the minimum distance necessary to obtain such a clear shot, then fire (still with a two-hand grip). If this option is necessary, then Peng will forego an aimed shot and simply squeeze off a snapshot (time being a pressing consideration).
NOTE: As a combat veteran, Peng will ignore the incoming SMG rounds this turn. Given the evident results of the attack, the Opposition is "spraying and praying," so crouching or attempting to seek (nonexistent?) nearby cover is pretty much pointless.

[OCC: I suspect that these guys are relative amateurs at this. Professionals with access to an airraft should have set up some trip-wired mines/grenades/IEDs and done so closer to the middle of our trip. Much less chance of us shooting back immediately or having to deal with witnesses/bystanders.]
