It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that my closest friend and longest player lost his battle with brain cancer yesterday. He was only 40. Chris and I met in grade school and formed a friendship that became a brotherhood. We have been through divorces, bad girlfriends, struggles with alcohol and quite a bit of good old Missouri Hillbilly hellraising together. We were both fans of the history of the Missouri part of the Civil War, Horror, music, pro wrestling and gaming. We would have long discussions on the state of music, horror movies, life in general and the folklore and legends of our great region of the Ozarks.
Chris was an excellent father raising a daughter and a son who has spina bifida by himself. He was the embodiment of hospitality and even when he was frail and bed ridden tried to make anyone feel at home. He loved his family and friends and would do anything for them. He will be sorely missed and I would like to ask all of you to raise a glass in his honor.
Chris will also be immortalized in a sense in my campaign as an NPC which will be written up in my section of the forum (Darke's World).
Since Chris was a Norse Pagan I want to say, in his honor, to enjoy Valhalla because if anyone earned a place there, it was him.

Our deepest sorrow for you and those left behind. It's the hardest thing about aging. Our prayers for you, for him, and for his family - especially the children.

Mr Darke I also offer my deepest sympathies for your loss and our prayers are with you and with the family. It is a shame that our friends (anyone for that matter) have to go way before their time and always difficult to accept. I hope that the situation with his children is going to be a stable situation for them.

Thank you all. I am going to see his parents tomorrow and see what they need. I will also be having a memorial game for him sometime soon. I will post a report on how it goes.

Sorry to hear of your loss, may you find comfort in this time of sorrow. A memorial game sounds most appropriate.

Thank you all very much. The visit with his parents was as best as it could be and they sat me next to his ashes; while we traded stories I felt that sideways look he'd give me when he would jokingly threaten me. I went for a hike at one of our old hunting/stomping grounds kind of a last ride of the boys. And as was the case when we would run around, some shenanigans and semi-legal action went down. After said action I was smoking a cigar and, resting from a climb I wasn't supposed to make, told him I was getting to old for this sh*t. I swear he laughed.
