Update: My mom doesn't have thyroid cancer just benign thyroid nodule, she has to go back in a year & see if the other is big enough to do a biopsy on; but she does have a swallow check on the 12th.

Hi everyone, I have not been on for a while so I wanted to post an update.
1. First I have talked to Chet and he has been in and out of the hospital since his mothers funeral and they are also his youngest daughters wedding approaches and the family is wrapped up in that. He did not say much about his health. 2. I had an allergic reaction to the blood pressure medicine I have been taking for about seven years and ended up in the hospital. I finally made it home and got started on a new medication. I had computer problems and was offline while getting them fixed. Then on Monday I started having pain and it turned out to be from my new medication. I stopped the meds and called the doctor, but still had so much pain in my feet and ankles that I could barely stand and move enough in the house to care for myself. Saw the doctor today and have a new medicine I am to start on Saturday. Still very fatigued and still having trouble walking. Hope to be active online soon.

Hope you feel better soon, PD! Your story makes me wonder if I'm some sort of fluke, because I'm on several different meds (for blood pressure, cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes) but have never [yet!] experienced any significant problems from them. Although . . . I have to wonder if how tired I always seem to be might be a reaction in itself?

I know that the beta blockers for blood pressure can cause fatigue as a common side effect according to my research online. When I started having all the pain I checked to see what the potential side effects were.

Well the new med seems to be working OK so far, but I am still walking with a cane from the last one. But good news, my PSA test results today were too low to be detectable. So I am celebrating that and thanking God for it!

Apparently a side effect of the statin my Doc has me taking. Getting to the point I can almost predict the onset

Apparently a side effect of the statin my Doc has me taking. Getting to the point I can almost predict the onset I had to quit taking the statin because of severe joint pain, when I read your post, I realized that all of the muscle cramps I was having all over my body also went away.

The bad news is that I found out Friday after the tests came back that I have gout! The good news is that the pain level had went down enough that I could go to my 45th high school reunion and had an incredibly good time and some people that I really wanted to see were there.

Still battling the gout and on my second course of Corticosteroids, a stronger dose this time with a longer tapering off period. Also taking a long term gout medicaiton and I am currently off of my blood pressure medication, but watching it closely. Also learning a new way of eating. I am not supposed to eat meat (beef, pork, chicken, turkey, fish and the like). This is rather tough as I have eaten meat at every meal my entire life, which explains why my uric acid levels are so high. I am allowed to eat eggs (now and then) and the rest is learning how to eat a close to vegan diet with vegetables, legumes and whole grains being prominent. Pretty much what I already eat sans meat. But without meat and also low salt it is a lot harder to make things taste good so working on that. Since I also have high cholesterol, I have also added whole oats and oat bran to every meal.
The pain is better, but not gone, but hopefully between the medicine and the dietary changes it will get better. I am hoping long term the flare ups will be few and brief.

Been going through a very rough patch. My mom's health is worsening. After my brother-in-law threatened to go to a lawyer something was done, and it turns out it is very likely my mom has ASL and there is very little we can do but manage her daily life to make her as comfortable as possible. Maybe if her doctor caught it in time there could've been measures to take to help slow the degradation of her nerves. She can barely talk & eat or drink with difficulty. I may look into seeing if I can get paid to be her full time care giver and maybe hire a caregiver if needed to give me a break. Top this off my laptop finally died. So horrible last few days and months.

The bad news is that I found out Friday after the tests came back that I have gout! I wonder if I should be checked for that? My feet are looking odd to me lately, much thicker than I seem to remember them being. The good news is that the pain level had went down enough that I could go to my 45th high school reunion and had an incredibly good time and some people that I really wanted to see were there. That sounds wonderful. I remember when my Mom came back from her 50th reunion (some 18 years ago now . . . lordy, has it been that long?) and commented: "They're all exactly the same as I remember, just fatter and grayer."

If your feet and ankles are swelling that could be a number of different things. I would get a through checkup. Blood pressure, kidney function, a lot of things, better to check and find out.

A lot of them I had not seen in 45 years, so a lot of people I did not recognize and a lot of people did not recognize me. Others I would have known anywhere. A few I interact with on FB so we already know what each other looks like. Most of us look our age, a few look like they are 10-15 years older and a few look 10 years younger. A few guys still have full heads of hair, the rest of us not so much.

Prayers and Positive Thoughts to all members needing such. Haven't been by in a while so just checking in. Status quo on my side of the fence. Another year older and still gaming! Knock on wood no major health or family related issue, just prepping for my annual dose of SAD (seasonal affective disorder) being that I live int he snowy NorthEast. Egads I need to move somewhere more tropical! ;-)

Prayers and Positive Thoughts to all members needing such. I second these sentiments. Haven't been by in a while so just checking in. Status quo on my side of the fence. Another year older and still gaming! Did you see my post about wanting to start a Cepheus Engine PbP? Knock on wood no major health or family related issue, just prepping for my annual dose of SAD (seasonal affective disorder) being that I live int he snowy NorthEast. Egads I need to move somewhere more tropical! ;-) Yeah. I hate SAD. I'm working third shift these days, so it will probably be worse than usual, as I will only see the sun this winter if I stay up "late" after getting off work. But the pay is better and I only very rarely have to deal with disgruntled guests. So I figure it comes out about even, all things considered.

My mom is heading to surgery to get a feeding tube now. She no longer can speak or eat. She’ll be staying at my sisters house for the time being but I will still be taking care of her during the day. It is so rough right now. Thanks for all the kind words and prayers for her and our family, I really appreciate it a lot.

You should both try getting one of those full spectrum lamps for SAD, raikenclw could plug it in a work during your shift and simrion could do whatever works for location. I have heard that they really do help.
