This setting will be under revision soon.
At this time the revisions include:
* Updating the Church based on a new paradigm that includes some Kabbalah and Hermetic Principles.
* Revising the ruleset to a synthesized OD&D + RC Classic D&D (essentially an experiement in making an OD&D had it continued and not become 'Basic')
* Full integration of Raven's Keep and The Karstlands into the setting and possibly making it the main campaign area.
* Adding in some events from my old 2e campaign which was set in a fantasy Europe for my own fun.
* With the ruleset changes modifying the OD&D classes (Assassin, Monk, Druid, Paladin Etc.) to the rules.
* Revisions for consistency and correcting errors that move to a campaign document.
These revisions will be over a period of time and I will keep the original threads intact marking new material with [Revised].

My hard copy of the RC came in and I am rereading certain points that has me rethinking some ideas I had on rules. There are some things in there that I really like that is not the way OD&D did things. For example, I really like how you have to work into being a Paladin instead of starting as one. I also have noticed that if you use the optional skills you can build certain classes using them and the weapon mastery really can make the fighter shine. So that is all being rethought at this time.
As for the setting I am going to now focus in on the main campaign area and work out from there. While I could write volumes on how religion works in my world I think we are close to an operating idea and with the focusing in I can show how it translates to a region. Also my first session may be this weekend so I might put up a play report.

I really like how you have to work into being a Paladin instead of starting as one. That's similar to how I handled prestige classes in my game. You want to be a paladin, knight, alchemist, etc.? Act like one, and tell me what you're doing to further your goal of being one. The deities will likely smile upon your efforts.

I did something similar which involved finding a trainer and such. That said, I like how the fighter can branch different directions like Paladin, Knight or Avenger and it really makes the player think about his choices. I have thought about having special quests for each class at after 9th level to access the later abilities of the class. However, I am not a fan of how the druid was done in the RC and I have different plans for that. Also with using skills you can build a decent ranger that also keeps the magical abilities to the main casting classes.
So the classes I am looking at converting now are the Assassin and Druid with the old Ranger as a possibility. I am going to look at others from different sources but my main rule is to keep spellcasting to three main spheres: Divine (Clerics), Arcane (Wizards) and Natural (Druid). I will also be converting spells in from AD&D as I want to expand on spell ability for those classes.
One other thing I am going to do is provide an alternate religious system that is a variation of the original of this particular world. That way you can see both ways it was created.

I didn't know the RC did that with Paladins, but I switched a few years back over to Paladins are chosen from worthy 4th levels.

There will be a couple changes to the direction I am taking on this. I am going to shift focus to the 'Vinland' side of the campaign as it was something Chris and I had been working on for some time. The whole idea of this setting came from our love of alt-history, shows like America Unearthed, and some wild speculation. While I had been focusing on the 'Europa' side of the campaign I want to see Vinland through. I hope you all understand and I will be continuing to develop Europa as well.

Do whatever you need to, that is fine with me and I assume will be with others as well.

Hexenritter Verlag, I am assuming from the context that you meant Doesn't bother. Mr Darke, I also am on board with honoring a dear friend and think it is an awesome thing you do.

It's been one of those years that has just been hard. I won't go into details but both good and bad things have happened and the good does outweigh the bad. I have been keeping busy with many things that are not gaming related that have been very fulfilling and educational (Two of which are being on the Altar Guild and an Acolyte at my church). \
That said, I am going to make a new effort in working on the setting and rules with an eye on some further goals. No promises but my schedule may have cleared to begin putting this mess in a more cohesive form.

Here are the initial plans given that I have time to execute them. I want to state that this is both long and short term and will be subject to change.
1) Collecting posts and notes into a file for a good editing pass and putting them into some form of cohesion. This will take time and will be a slow process.
2) Releasing the revised content in new posts either here, on a blog or even creating a campaign wiki.
3) Deciding on a rules system for the setting. I am closely looking at S&W: Complete for this as it works as a bridge between the various Old School D&D settings. Also with the system getting a fresh look and the 2020 Kickstarter I have high hopes for the ruleset. Plus I like the system, have known Matt from back in the early Castles & Crusades days.
4) Finally one that I have kicked around for a bit: A published version of some form. This is very long term and may not happen. But this also should explain the above ideas a bit better. While this may just be a vanity copy or a P.O.D. run on a site like Lulu; this is something I would like to eventually do.
Of course all this depends on time but I have been trying not to just veg out in my spare time and actually do something with it. I know this sounds familiar but I wanted to get my thoughts together and post them to get some feedback.

There has been a major change which will change how I am going to approach this. Over the vacation I decided to go on hiatus from active DMing and am stepping back from D&D as a whole. Development will continue for when I decide to step back in. This will give me time to make certain decisions and make some good editing passes. While I am also on hiatus this gives me a chance to go back and look at my early influences on my games and use that to develop the world more. Expect a few words or more on what they were and how they influenced things. But be warned, I cam into the hobby in the late 80s and 90s so that era of gaming is going to be present.

It is alright, we will try to not hold such heresy against you! Seriously I am looking forward to seeing what you have. Since I missed everything from the 80's relating to gaming the first time through, I should find it plenty interesting.
