I am absolutely sure my settings do not exist in an alternate dimension: somebody would find a way here and kill me. For exposing hidden secrets? For being merciless to the population and adventurers. They also be a possibility they would have given me like 1000 GP which is like 100 lbs of gold, lol

My settings are inspired by art and animation mostly as I am a very visual guy. So many of the elements found in my settings are often my takes on something I've seen in manga, American & European comics; sword & sorcery art, video games, metal album covers and animation like 'Wizards', 'Fire & Ice', 'Log Horizon', 'Record of Lodoss War', 'El Hazard' and anything by Hayao Miyazaki.
A lot of my current design are inspired by 'Darkest Dungeon' computer game, the art of Justin Sweet & Paul Bonner and 70s artists/animators; as well as Ancient Near Eastern cultures. That said, I'd love to create a setting inspired by my favorite manga, anime & light novels, such as 'Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a Dungeon?','Sword Art Online'& 'Log Horizon'. But the issue is finding players interested in such styled campaigns.

Admin Pete said: I am not sure, but like a lot of manga and anime 'Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon?" plays heavily with the "harem" trope common to Japanese pop culture, though the main character Bell Cranell like many protagonists often has one unattainable girl he pines for like the Aiz Wallenstein a high level swordswoman he idolizes who saved his life. So I'll assume sexy female but competent adventures would be the answer to your question.

Seems like a lot more trouble than a community dance or singles' branch. These kids and their strange "meet & greets."

The "harem" trope is common to many cultures dating back thousands of years and quite a few cultures still embrace that trope as a main part of their modern 21st century world. Most of those cultures still embrace slavery as well.

Admin Pete said: That is true if were are talking about a literal harem, but in context of manga & anime, "harem" is usually based around the trope of a often nerdy and socially awkward young man who some how attracts the interest of a number of often pretty women who want to be his "one" and often squabbles or competes with their rivals for the main characters affection; though the main character often has his eyes set on one unattainable girl who only later realizes her feelings for him. Usually the attention from all these girls flusters the often shy main character and hilarity often ensues. You have to be a fan of anime and manga to enjoy these type of things. As I grew up with both anime and manga they tend to impact my designs in some fashion - such as flying sky whales or something else. Like in the Assumed OD&D setting thread, the living dungeon trope has been used in at least two manga/anime that I know of. So being the type of person I am, I'd use those influences to spark my creativity and use them as seeds for my own ideas in context of the game. I would not be using the "harem" trope or some of the other tropes common to anime & manga as they wouldn't feel right and would be hard to play off in a campaign. That all said, slavery & harems do exist in my settings as they make sense since 1) they happened in history & 2) they were common tropes in Sword & Sorcery.

In another thread, a couple of people avoid sexual situations in their games, believing that they are doing this to keep things kid-friendly; personally, I think that it is always an odd custom that we parents (myself included) are more likely to expose my kids to violence than of sexual topics, but whatever. My question to you, dear reader, is can you identify something in your personal milieu or a gaming philosophy in whatever world that you play, that may identify something about you that you may not know about yourself.
I have changed since I last posted on this thread. My NPCs, or favored NPCs, tend to be a little lost, seeking some kind of reset. Generally my settings, choices, and puzzles tend towards the mythical. I like exploration and in-person learning about the settings and favor those things over extended exposition by NPCs or the ref. Generally, I like learning and discovery, with more just around the corner. At the same time, I don't think everything has to be rigorously defined or perfectly understood.
