It's been suggested that we start a sub-forum for another game which is Old School (and never left the Old School) but isn't what anyone (except me, perhaps) considers part of OSR. Heck, we haven't decided just what OSR means anyway. And that game is the ever-present Tunnels and Trolls. TnT has some different rules, some of which players and gamesmasters follow. When they feel like it. But TnT isn't the rules. Even now in its 9th or 10th edition (Deluxe Tunnels and Trolls is the title, which avoids the edition numbering controversy completely.) the rules haven't strayed far from the first, really badly printed (in ditto) edition. TnT is more of an attitude. It's a healthy disregard for rules and downright antipathy towards rules lawyers. It's whatever moves the game forward or backward, but by George let's MOVE it. When I sit down for Traveller, RuneQuest, HeroQuest, Castles & Crusades, or even a variation of D&D (except 5ed) I'm playing TnT - even if I'm playing under a different ruleset. ------------------------------------------------------ Now looking over the sub-forum list, I see a BIG ol' stack of other games already taking up space and putting their feet all over the furniture. (We asked them to take their shoes off, but found their feet tracked MORE muck!) So, at least for now, we'll try to keep any specific TnT talk in this thread. There is, after all, a Trollbridge out there if you want an entire forum. I've also been asked, once or twice, for the URL of that there Trollbridge - and it's trollbridge.proboards.comCome on over sometime. You'll see Piper and me there, and a couple others whose aliases escape me. Possibly because their feet ruined the couch. But it's part of their charm!

Yes, the both the Tunnels & Trolls game and forum are pretty great.
I'm pretty new to T&T but I've been enjoying getting to know the rules. Like MormanYoYoMan stated, it has a different vibe from D&D. Similar subject matter but very different approaches and feeling to the game.

One of the best things about T&T is that combat is so abstract that it feels almost like Risk (based on reading the free starter rules). This puts an emphasis on other aspects of RPGs that are often overlooked. I'll be sure to check out the site.
EDIT: WOW! That site is super active! I have a lot reading to do!

If the Monster Rating combat system gets too abstract for you, it's simpler to use the SR attribute system for combat. That's mostly I've used since 1976.

I think it has been around for 10 years or more from poking around on the site. A lot of good reading, fresh perspectives and all that.

It is my understanding the T&T site with the most traffic was Trollhalla, but that site collapsed under the weight of a decade of kludgy, legacy coding and the data is reportedly lost. This makes Trollbridge the only forum (I know of, at least) for gathering and discussing T&T. I believer there is an active Yahoo! chat group, too.

Outer Sanctum of the Trollgod’s Trollhalla from the Wayback Machine, thank you Mr. Peabody, and some of the links on the right side of the page work for anyone who wants to poke around. No way to access anything in the forums of course.

Are there any blogs or other websites that focus on T&T?

Yup. Give me a few hours to get back to the Big Boy computer and I'll get you some links.
