Not wishing to allow elves a monopoly on the idea of cultural miracles, I always thought that there should be some game benefit from drinking beer--especially dwarf beer; elf wine may have its own characteristics, perhaps for another thread.
Dwarf Beer: Dark Mountain (20% alcohol) This musty smelling brew is created deep in the caverns of the mountain dwarfs. Its exact recipe is known only to mountain clans, and used mostly for ceremonial purposes. Imbibing a full pint of the liquid in 1 minute or less has been discovered to result in unusual benefits, even to non-dwarfs. If consumed such(see above), the imbiber will either: pass out for 6 hours (a successful CON check avoids this); or their physiology will be stimulated to the point that their regenerative process will literally shrug off and repair minor damage--even from combat--for 3 Turns. Minor damage being defined to mean--if the damage inflicted is 2 or less (on a d6) such damage will be regenerated (and thus ignored) within the time limit. Multiple attack-damage included; meaning, if 3 opponents attack, doing 1, 2 and 4 points of damage, only the 4 is considered a reality.
Once the duration of the beneficial effect has passed, the imbiber will be weary, sluggish and in need of rest for 1 complete turn. Any strenuous activity during such time will carry severe penalties; such as combat, etc. Such penalties will continue if the rest period is interrupted, and continually interrupted. After such complete rest, the character is, more or less, back to normal.
The dwarfs do not easily part with this item. It is never sold to non-dwarfs. It is rumored that, rarely, gifting of it for great and unusual service to the mountain clans, has occurred.
