Nodding in agreement with Emma's point about jurisdiction . . . [OOC: I was previously assuming that we were in the startown, rather than on the starport grounds proper . . . since these cops were *not* accompanied by a member of Starport Security (as I assume they would have been while visiting in uniform).]. . . Suzuki watches carefully to see what the cops and Hypo Guy are going to do, now that their bluff has been at least partially called. [ooc: Yea, sorry, I realized I hadn't actually established the location of the Drunken Goose... So I decided that since you folks were being attentive to whether they were real cops and not just assuming "guy in cop-like uniform, ok, got it", that it would make things more interesting to create a jurisdictional issue.
I'll have more response later, just figured I could fire off this note quickly.]

The cops look at you folks, look at the bar keep, and shrug and say "Sorry Dr. Lao, we're going to have to leave, the lady is right, we have no jurisdiction here, you're going to have to get Starport Authority to help you."
The doctor grumbles and agrees to leave, and the cops and doctor leave the Drunken Goose.

Suzuki visibly relaxes . . .
Whew! I much prefer to talk my way out of tight places. Bullets tend to involve soooo many complications.
. . . then turns to Danny with a raised eyebrow, nodding his head toward Princess IWD.
[OOC: Since I don't know the outcome of Danny's interaction with Princess IWD yet, I think that's as far as I can reasonably push the action.]

Oh, yea, sorry, between Danny's calming voice and the cops and doctor leaving, the woman will relax. She introduces herself as Lady Madelein, thanks you for getting the doctor off her and asks again if you would help free her kidnapped brother. She says the doctor is in cahoots with her brother's kidnapper and they want to kill her or drug her up in the Bledsoe.

Suzuki looks over at Danny, who gives him a cautious nod, which the former scout takes to mean: "I'm not saying I believe her, but neither do I think she's physically dangerous."
Aloud, Suzuki says, "Alright, then it seems like it's time to adjourn here and reconvene aboard our new-to-us-anyway boat. Any objections?"
Assuming nobody objects, Suzuki leaves enough currency to cover his bill plus a 30% tip and leads the way toward the tavern door.

Emma looks at him, Danny and Suzuki, obviously displeased.

For the sake of economy - and also to keep themselves and their possible future activities as far from prying official eyes as possible - Suzuki and Rockie had moved The One That Got away to a dirt-cheap, bare-bones berth in the outermost ring of the local downport. As the stretch taxi drops them at the berth's ungated entrance, Suzuki pays the driver (plus 20% tip) and then leads the way into the berth. Sweeping his arm in a grand gesture toward the small battered ship sitting in the center of the berth, Suzuki bows low and intones in a deep voice: "Welcome, one and all, to The One That Got Away!"Then as he steps up to the keypad on the forward landing leg and punches in the code to lower the boarding stairs, Suzuki adds in his normal voice: "She may not look like much, but she's ours. Or rather, she's ours for as long as we don't piss the Scouts off toooo badly."

As Danny starts to ascend the stair, she casually runs a white-gloved finger along the underside of the handrail. Holding up the resulting smudge for inspection, she sniffs and says, "I see your usual standards of cleanliness are being upheld, Adam."
Blushing slightly, Suzuki replies in a breezy tone, "Well, I didn't see any need to break out the toothbrushes yet, when we've still got so much work to be done."

Emma looks around and says to Tab, "Why, you told me this was a ship, not a hunk of junk!"
Tab says, "No, I told ya we were onna Suleiman." He turns to Suzuki and says, "Yer show, Cap, start planning."

Suzuki has been watching the Princess during the trip to the ship, trying to assess whether or not she is crazy and - if sane - whether her story holds water.
I'm as vulnerable to a pretty face as the next hetero guy, but there's a long way from feeling sorry for a cute girl and putting my life and those of the rest of this bunch on the line for a pie-in-the-sky promise.
[OOC: What kind of access do we have to local databases and media? IS Princess an actual local noble? Or just a crackpot?]

Suzuki can check up on some things, and yes, the lady is indeed a local noble. Neither he or Tab get any sense of crazy (Tab has Medic-1 which should help in analysis).

Tab will say, "Ma'am, I'd like to run a medical scan, for your health. Just in case."
Emma starts researching the family of the lady, just to be sure there is a brother. Once she does that she researches the local sanatoriums to see what's with that doctor.

There is a brother, the doctor is listed on the staff of the Bledsoe. Emma isn't able to turn anything else up (Admin roll 3+1).
(p.s. I hope it's ok with you folks, in these play by posts, I've been doing dice rolls for the players - it moves things along smoother).

The scan doesn't turn anything up (it would at least detect drugs used to manage a psychotic condition, though it might not be able to pick up an untreated condition).

Okay. I will take the others aside to tell them this. Taking a seat across the common room table from the local woman and smiling so big that he feels like his face is about to crack, Suzuki says briskly, "Well, it seems you're generally in good health and not currently under the influence of any known drugs."Looking around at the rest of his very new associates, Suzuki lets the smile drop away as he continues, "But that still leaves the question of why you're coming to us, a random group of strangers? Surely a member of the local nobility can depend on the authorities for aid?"

The local authorities can't be trusted, I think they are behind the kidnapping of my brother and the attempt to commit me to the Bledsoe. I think my brother stumbled on something they don't want exposed. I just want to get him away from them and out of this system.

Suzuki purses his lips for a moment in thought, then asks: "So . . . when did you last see your brother? How do you normally contact him? What makes you think he's been kidnapped? Most importantly, where's your money?"Danny gives Suzuki a very old-fashioned look, to which he replies, "What? We have to eat, don't we? And then there's the matter of the bribes and/or attorney's fees that we'll need to handle if this circus goes south on us."

I saw him the day before he was kidnapped. We were supposed to meet for dinner again and he never showed. I went to his home and there was no one home, no signs of forced entry, but his favorite watch was left on the bathroom counter, so I knew something was amiss. I visited a friend who is a computer wiz who found some information. With his help, we can get more information about the villa. I recognized the location as Baron von Schloss's, and I have a map of the villa I drew from memory.
As to the money, I will pay you 50 kcr up front, and 250 kcr once we land at a safe world. She will pull out her cell phone and show you a bank account balance with 300 kcr in it. I understand I am asking you to take on a risk and your request to see the cash up front does not offend.
This money is the entirety of our recent inheritance after our father passed away. Unfortunately the estate had not been well managed and we lost the villa. At this point, I just want to get away from here, and I'm sure Patrice would also like to get away.

This money is the entirety of our recent inheritance after our father passed away. Unfortunately the estate had not been well managed and we lost the villa. At this point, I just want to get away from here, and I'm sure Patrice would also like to get away. Suzuki nods along as PIWD explains the above. After she stops talking, Suzuki comments in a musing tone: "So . . . your computer geek somehow discovers that your brother is being held at a villa belonging to a Baron von Schloss. That part is rather too vague for my liking. Especialy because this is a location with which you happen to be familiar and - unless I've gotten the timeline here confused - your commitment to the Bledsoe came afterward."Looking around at the other members of his crew, Suzuki asks, "Anyone else think this smells like a set-up? That the brother is being held somewhere else or . . ."Here he pauses to give a pitying look at PIWD, before continuing in a gentler tone: " . . . is already disposed of?"
