This is the thread that everything kicks off in to start game play. You are all in the town of Duraham, a walled town of about 3000 population not counting children and non-humans. It does have a mix that includes some of most races. Most common items are available for purchase. There are a number of Taverns (drinking, eating & possibly entertainment) and Inns (lodging, private drinking, eating & possibly entertainment for guests - all depending on the size of the establishment). There is a commercial area and several places to seek work of all kinds. I will be unlocking this thread late today and I am not sure when I will be on tomorrow on the first, that I will be on a time or two.

Go ahead, those who have PCs started and begin here and talk among yourselves and we'll get everyone added in. As noted at the top of the forum my wife and I had unexpected stuff today and I did not get everything done I intended. We will proceed anyway.

Herv has been in town for a few weeks and has met a few people that he is beginning to think would be good companions for an adventure, for nonHulcanians. He brings to the table the never say die attitude of the Hulcanian race, the envy of all other peoples. He misses his people and feels adrift in the world. He needs to find those he can trust to guard his back as he would guard theirs.

Tuck, Cleric Extraordinaire, recently met Herv the Hulk something or other and sees what every Cleric needs, a thick headed muscle bound living shield. Now were are the others?

(Me should have posted this here.)
My traveling (travelling, if you're Marc Millar) companion and I, Shiyazthar, stop wherever we might trade or sell some pelts/hides. If we run into anyone who is a PC, let me know and I'll describe ourselves and possibly converse.
Well, the human will probably converse.

Sliggoth the curious Nagitherian slithers into town, smiling at all he meets. He is excited to seek his fortune among the inventive humans, and remembers that they often congregate to share liquid, a behaviour of which he approves. He enters a human tavern and sees some other aliens, and gravitates towards them. He is glad he took those language lessons
The trident carrying human/snake hybrid, wearing a shiny brand new leather protective jerkin on his upper half, tries to be friendly. "Greetings, fellow sentients, are you potentially pursuing paths of profitable pursuits? I am Sliggoth, and am willing to lend my weapons and wits to those willing to share wealth"

Varien the elf wanders into town having come from a nearby wood. Seeing the Nagitherian, he cautiously approaches and introduces himself.
Varien wears leather, has a shortbow and quiver, a stuffed backpack, and a sword at his belt, shield slung over all. He has clearly been travelling for a few days.
"Greetings kind soul, I am Varien. I seek fortune myself."

Shiyazthar, a human who needs a shave and a bath, dressed in green leather with a bag slung over his back, looks about and mutters to his companion, a pale and tall elf woman. "Used t' be a HIDES R US in this place. Except the 'R' was backwards. I am not lost!"

Wy is still green enough (no, Shiyazathar, he’s not _really_ green) that he never ceases to wonder at the variety of folk found in Duraham. He seeks adventurers he can join with as he hopes to increase his powers and wealth. He introduces himself to all he overhears discussing expeditions and fortune. And he’s on the lookout, too, for a couple of stout, and hopefully loyal, mercenaries.

How many fine folk think you we need to find fortune?"

You are in the tavern known as The Laughing Ogre. At the bar a massive ogre presides and he is covered with scars, none of you have ever seen such scars on someone who still lives and has full use of his limbs. A sign above the bar reads "You should see the other guy."
Sliggoth goes to the bar and orders water and instantly silence reigns. The ogre, however, does not bat an eye but reaches high on a shelf and takes down a bronze pitcher and pours two mugs of water that are so cold, the outside of the mugs immediately begins to sweat. To Sliggoth he says, "10 copper, bud."
The ogre asks "Anyone else?" but no one speaks, he shrugs and puts the pitcher back on the shelf.
Normal sound returns to the bar and he does back to wiping the bar with a large rather dirty rag.

Shiyazthar shifts the weight of his sack and places it onto the bar as he faces Mr Ogre. "Excuse me, Good Fellow. Whist there be the marketshop for fine pelts? I shall return afterwards to sample your fine fare. Indeed, I remember thine fine venison and cream from last year."
The tall elf turns her eyes to the table where the others sit. "There," she whispers to Shiyazthar. "It is he."

The ogre turns to Shiyazthar and sighing says, "You are back. Again." Another large sigh, "Go thou to the same place as last time," and pointing says, "Look for the banner 'Hides, Pelts & Skins', the same as last time." Muttering to himself he turns back to polishing the bar with a large rather dirty rag.

Wy makes his way to The Laughing Ogre. Eavesdrops on Sliggoth and Varien.
“For fortune, as many good men as can be mustered I think.” Wy pauses and offers a hesitant smile, hoping his interruption doesn't come across as too rude.
“They call me Wy. It seems we share similar goals.”
Wy taps the bar, not aggressively at all, to get the bartender’s attention to order a drink and ask about known hangouts for mercenaries.

The massive ogre turns at the sound of the tap and grins (a hideous sight) with his fangs on full display as it seems a good day for business. "Wot'll you have," he says.

Normal sound returns to the bar and he does back to wiping the bar with a large rather dirty rag. Sliggoth dispenses 12 copper pieces. He has heard it is good to overpay in drinking establishments - some strange human custom he is sure, but he is eager to fit in. He looks at the mug in awe. "Frosted water - I have heard of it but never seen it. What an accomplishment!". He takes a cautious taste with his forked tongue, and marvels at the coldness. He will have to drink it slowly. Sliggoth turns at Wy's voice. "Why do they call you 'Why;"? He is puzzled. He looks at the lack of armament and the rowan staff. "You must be a dispenser of dangerous dweomers. I think that we could use a wziard of wisdom in our travels. What say you Verias?"

Varien is curious about this frosted water, he's never seen such a beverage.
Yes another purveyor of dweomers would be welcome, I myself have some ability with dweomers.

Tuck wanders into the Ogre tavern (cavern??) and sees the ogre at the bar and a bunch of adventurous looking types and some kinda snake creature that looks pretty bad. He goes first to the counter and requests a good fiery drink.

Herv follows Tuck into the tavern, smiles at the size of the ogre and heads to the group of adventurers to introduce himself. He says, "Pardon me for interrupting, my name is Herv and I am a Hulcanian and I am looking for a group of adventurers like yourselves to team up with."

Is anyone asking the bartender about the water? Sure, Varien will, he IS very curious. The ogre grins, and reaches up on the shelf and pulls down the pitcher. He says, "Back when I was a young buck and out to make my fortune, I did a bit of adventuring and I ran across this pitcher that never runs dry and it dispenses water so pure and so cold that some of it freezes when it is poured. Many a thief has been killed trying to take this from me, I never let it out of my sight, it is how I got my stake for this place. He gently kisses it and puts it back on the shelf above his head.(about 10 feet off the floor).

The ogre chuckles as he pours the fiery drink for Tuck and also the mug of water. He sets them before Tuck and says that is 10 copper for the water and 10 copper for the drink.

Tuck takes a drink of the fiery beverage and immediately gasps, coughs and chokes as sweat pours off his forehead. The ogre laughs and laughs till tears run down his cheeks, he gasps out that, "It is wise to know what you are ordering! Take a drink of the water, it will put you aright."

"Nice." Lifting his glass, Varien takes a sip. "mm, good clean water. We have water like this from the spring back home, it's nice to find such clean water here in the city." The bartender with wide eyes says, "Not just clean, but pure, like nothing I have ever tasted anywhere. A lot of mages, and clerics for that matter have paid well for large samples to study. The local mage regularly buys a 10 gallon stone jar full once a week, who knows what he does with it."
