Thanks for the welcome, Von! ...But don't you know Eleanor is destined to rule? Tell you what, if you're nice, I'll rent you her brother Peppin's space (Haha... I shouldn't trash talk like this, even in silly, friendly jest like this... ill play my heart out, but haven't played risk in quite a while!)

I imagine I am going to regret these fightin' words in a few turns' time, to be honest.

The Red Baron, Mr Darke, Von, Necromancer, makofan, merctime: TURN 2: Fall of the Year of the Heavenly King 990. Phase: NEGOTATION NEGOTIATION IS NOW OPEN! I will soon post a new "op ed" on the Christendom Crier. Please have your PCs post some public announcement, statement, plea, or whatever, on the Crier as well. You may do so at any time. This is the time that private negotiation is acceptable. Please remember to include me on any PMs. This is also the time to deliver to me any orders for spies or scouts (delegations, search-parties, etc.). You may send those to me right away or wait towards the end of this phase and do so right before close of phase. DISCUSSION TOPICS I realize now that I began the game with certain expectations in terms of our use of time and rate-of-posting. I would like to be clear about those now and I am open for discussion. TIME: My hope is that each phase can be concluded in approximately a week to two weeks. Ideally, for those involving orders, players would PM their orders to me within three to four days, and I, in turn, would execute those orders within three to four days, thus giving approximately one week to such phases. I realize that there are two phases in particular that may become protracted. Negotiations may need more time if player's characters get into debates or extended negotiating. I understand. I hope, however, that character to character and player to referee communications during this phase can still take place within about a week. Invasions may take more time if playing characters actually engage one another in direct "man to man" combat. But that will be fun! And more like what we are used to as D&D players in on-line PbPs. In either case, I hope no more than about two weeks should be necessary. PRESENCE: My hope is that the two phases that require only orders (reinforcements and fortification) should only require one communication from the player, and one response, each, for the referee, in that entire week. That seems like a reasonable frequency-of-posting load. With regards to negotiations, you will, of course, need to send any spy/scout orders to me, reach out to any (hoped for) allies and respond to any characters who reach out to yours. I do not see that involving more than about a once-a-day frequency-of-posting load. With regards to invasions, if your characters do not come in contact, it should have the same posting load as the more simple phases. If characters come in contact, we will need to resolve "normal D&D" combat between the two (which should be rad!). Again, I envision no more than a once-a-day rate-of-posting for that as well. That seems a reasonable load for the average play-by-post. All in all, a week-daily check in and a weekly posting should be all that is required of your time and energy most of the time. During hot negotiation or fierce melee we may need daily check in and week-daily posting. I hope that seems reasonable to all. Let me know what you all think. I am very much enjoying the gift you are giving me of play-testing my own rules and playing a campaign-level war in my campaign setting! Thanks! FIGHT ON!

Von, The Red Baron, Necromancer, merctime, makofan, Mr Darke: Okay, time for the weekly check-in: I have received three (3) out of six (6) players' negotiation-phase orders. Even if you are not planning any particular orders for me as your referee this phase, please just let me know that I need not expect anything more from you for this phase. Thanks!

Von, The Red Baron, Necromancer, merctime, makofan, Mr Darke: Weekly check-in: I have received all but one set of negotiation-phase orders. If I do not hear from the last player soon I will NPC his character so that we can move on. Thanks for your patience.

The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, Necromancer, merctime, makofan: TURN 2: Fall of the Year of the Heavenly King 990. Phase: REINFORCEMENT REINFORCEMENT IS NOW OPEN! PRIVATE NEGOTIATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED. Please conduct any further negotiation publicly, on the Crier. All have received appropriate PMs from me regarding any negotiation orders and relevant phase-related information. At this time please PM your Reinforcement Orders to me with the subject "PC short name, Kingdom Name: Reinforcement Orders," or use our previous thread if we already have one with this title, specifying you are now giving orders for Turn 2. Double check with me for numbers of armies available. Almost all of you have your various kingdom bonuses in addition to the two (2) default armies you receive each turn. No one has enough conquests to raise that base amount at this time. No one has three cards to turn in. So, calculate and tell me where you would like to place your new armies. You may place your armies in any realm you currently occupy. You may spread them thin or build them up in one locale, etc. NOTE: It seems we may have another missing player on our hands. I will do as I have done (unless there are any objections). I will NPC this character for up to the completion of this turn and if there is still no communication we will find a substitute. Thanks for your patience!

Roger that. I'm still here, but will likely follow through with orders for phase two tomorrow evening, or maybe tonight (but I'm not yet sure about tonight).

The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, Necromancer, merctime, makofan: TURN 2: Fall of the Year of the Heavenly King 990. Phase: INVASION INVASION IS NOW OPEN! REINFORCEMENT PHASE IS NOW CLOSED Please PM your invasion orders with the subject "PC short name, Kingdom Name: Invasion Orders." You can use a previous PM thread with the same name, just designate that these are orders for turn 2. Please study the Rules and Clarifications thread and the description of invasion orders given there before outlining your invasion orders. Please post any rule-clarifying questions in that thread and we will work things out. Things are about to get interesting, I believe. Continue to place meta-gaming questions in the Announcements and Discussion thread and in-character announcements, negotiations, BATTLE CRIES!, etc., on the Christendom Crier thread. The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, Necromancer, merctime, makofan: I just posted a bunch of "fluff," i.e., campaign description and legendaria discussion in the " Dun Kells" folder. Peruse or ignore to your delight. I thought I would draw y'all's attention to it, as it might help give you guys the "feel" for what I am going for in terms of my campaign setting. Thanks

merctime: As a full-blown monarch I am going to assume that you could have any purchasable weapon you desire. Makofan declared a mace for Isabel. Any preference, or shall I choose? And, yes, although a bit unlucky for Eleanor, it was fun: very legendary stuff for the after-narrative!

I'll assume she had a back-up of a horseman's hammer. I believe this, along with the mace, were common back-up weapons as well as primary ones. Effectively a basic war-hammer (but that's up to you).

Suggestion for tetramorphMight it be wisest to open up a new thread for each PC duel? They are complex encounters needing a lot of posts to resolve adequately, and I don't believe the clarity or the, er, 'character' or genre of the Crier thread is well served by having a conventional roleplay encounter suddenly happen in the middle of an epistolary... form. I can't words very well this morning. Apologies. Basically I want the duels between PCs to get the spotlight they deserve and I think the Crier thread is going to become very cluttered and compromised if everything resolves in there. I also think we may run into issues with turn taking (in terms of who posts what when and who has to wait and bite their lip and eventually lose the enthusiasm and impetus to contribute because they're worried about interrupting/confusing the action in progress). I really can't words very well this morning. Is any of this making sense?

Von, you are communicating very clearly to me, so no worries. You know, this is a very good point. Here were my thoughts: the Crier is underutilized as it is. Big events like monarchs in duals, instead of having Caedman report about later, could be reported 'live from the field,' as it were (I mean, this is fantasy). Seems like that would put the Crier to good use, keep the info public, and avoids the unnecessarily multiplications of threads as the campaign develops. So you are concerned with multiplying posts within a thread. I am concerned with multiplying threads within our folder (after writing it out, mine seems silly compared with yours). How about this: if the rest of the players don't mind, let's see how this first major dual unfolds on the Crier. If we in the main agree it seems cluttered, then, in future, I will start new threads.
