Do you use planes of existence in your campaign and have your players visited different planes? What planes do you use? Do you have a list (please share)? Why do you limit or not limit your list of planes? As I noted before, I will be posting mine when I have more time to post and am at home where the documents are. (that will not be within the next few days as this is a very busy weekend coming up)

I don't really know what AD&D folks mean by planes, and they are usually the only folks I know who have used them!
My setting is increasingly becoming a fantastical version of our own past.
So I have the heavenly spheres (these replace "contact higher plane," for example).
They could, I suppose, journey to Venus or Mars. But they would probably not be holy enough unless clerics of pretty high level.
The Moon might be more realistic for them to shoot for!

I've used different planes/dimensions in some of my campaigns back in the day, but always felt I never really explored the possibilities fully. I think it'd be cool to do something more with it, as I find it to be a cool concept.

I like the idea of overlapping realities, but I dislike the implementation in AD&D - one plane for each element, one plane for each alignment, one cluster of silly contrivances. The city at the centre of the planes is cool though; lack of exposure makes it seem more Fantastic than all the usual malarkey of orcs and that. Bit like Star Wars; there's all these odd-looking beings hanging around the bars and some of them are totally Other while others are just here to con you out of beer money.

Yup, in my 5e D&D my players portaled to my World of Skârn & back a few times, but none of the realms of the deities or the underworld (Hel/Hades type thing NOT the Underdark).

There is no linearly arranged, or understood by any POWER level, planar system coincidental to WoK. iIt's whatever been brought into being by various POWERS and catastrophes, mystical or alien, and can best be listed as dimensions, nexus points, alternate and conditional inter-dimensional way-stops, etc.

I mostly agree with Von's take about the coolness of it. Though my limited experience playing qith plane stuff has made me wary - it can so easily get cheapened and go south. I wouldn't trust myself to run a planesy campaign. Unless there were strict one-time events blasting information or objects or people from one plane to another, but nothing the PCs or even NPCs could control.
